Most Nevidio, Šavnik

The Municipality of Šavnik, Montenegro, launched a local design competition to reimagine the existing bridge over the Nevidio Canyon, originally constructed in the 1960s. The aim of the competition was not only to replace or upgrade the bridge, but to redefine it as a recognizable landmark capable of rebranding the area and strengthening its identity. In addition to the bridge itself, the competition brief included the design of a roadside picnic area and a series of parking spaces along the access road coming from the nearby town.

The bridge design is based on a geometric interplay of twisting and compression, generating two belvederes aligned with the main axis of the canyon. These viewing platforms frame the landscape and enhance the experiential quality of the crossing. Structurally, the bridge is composed of straight steel beams (IPE profiles) resting on two reinforced concrete abutments. Aluminium cladding panels envelop the structure, allowing for a lightweight visual expression while offering a cost-effective solution to achieve its sculptural form.

Located adjacent to the bridge, the picnic area functions as a resting point for mountain visitors, offering a place to pause before or after a hike, or simply to enjoy the surrounding landscape. The design is shaped by the natural topography of the mountain: a continuous bench cuts through the site, defining pedestrian paths and organizing movement. At the heart of the area, a central square, evoking the form of a traditional guvno, acts as the focal point and anchors the space within its cultural and geographical context.
